Killing two birds with one stone….

This is one way to do it….let your child climb into the bath with her clothes on. No need to do laundry later.

Kendyl just learned to hurdle the bathtub wall today. After getting Mason in I ran to my bathroom for something. When the Sadie alarm began to go off (the loudest highest pitch screams)….which usually means EMERGENCY! (We call her our channel 5 news….she’s always on top of the happenings in our house). Most of the time we would turn the channel on her broadcasts if we could…but occasionally it really comes in handy…like when your baby jumps into the tub unsupervised on her own!!!

No it’s just weird….

 

 

 

I fell back in the cycle. Grow my hair long…cut it off…then grow my hair…cut it off…etc! I thought I had broken the cycle and would leave it long. But I got an itch to cut it and so off it came.

When I came walking in from the salon today, Mason said “Mom your hair is weird!” I responded, “Oh that must mean really cool in a 3 year old language.” Then Mason said, “Nope it just means that it looks really weird!!!”

Well it’s a good thing even weird hair grows…because I think I miss my long hair already.

Mason’s Self Portrayal

This is a self-portrait Mason put together at church the other week. This is the final product….hmmm…should we be focusing on Mason’s self esteem??? This has got to be the scariest looking boy! Mason looks nothing like this….RIGHT??? I know every mother thinks they have cute kids…but really he doesn’t look this special….see for yourselves:

Highlights…

Every parent needs a simple highlight of the day….some kind of simple act between a parent and a child that melts your heart or makes you laugh. These daily highlights are what keep me loving my role as a mom. Parenting is not easy. So I feast upon every fun moment I encounter with each of my children.

Today’s highlights:

Watching my kids ride the cutest dang horse!!!

Rich is such a good Daddy. He’s always played the role of a horse in this household. He is my kids main source of transportation. They get rides to the bathroom to brush teeth, and rides to their rooms when it’s time for bed. My favorite is when he rears up and makes horse sounds. (You can tell he spends all day with horses…his impression is right on!)

The best highlight of the day:

We were playing hide and go seek as a family…guys against girls. Sadie insisted that we hide under our bed. I wasn’t sure that I could fit….but in an effort to go along with what Sadie wanted…I SQUEEZED EVERY INCH OF ME under the bed. As we sat there waiting to be found, I realized that getting out was not going to be fun. After being found I began to edge my way backwards only to find that it was not going to be a fun exit. Sadie told Dad and Mason to grab onto my legs and help by pulling. Then she said “Ok everyone let’s do this on the count of three. 1-2-3 HEAVE…..HEAVE EVERYONE HEAVE”.

I could not stop laughing….The first time the word HEAVE was said I thought “How funny”…the 2nd time I thought “Wow am I really in a condition where I need to be HEAVED?”…by the 3rd time I decided “Yep a diet is starting tomorrow”….haha! My kids keep me rolling…they can be so much fun!

Money to be made…

So Sadie has realized there is money to be made out there in the world….AND SHE WANTS TO BE APART OF IT!

So lately Rich and I have been rounding up things to sell to put more money into our “Emergency Fund” (First step in Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover plan). Apparently Sadie has taken notice at how easy it is to make money selling  the things you don’t actual need.

So she comes out of the her room the other day and said “Mom I want some money so I’ve decided I’m going to sell my toys. I put up a FOR SALE sign in my window right above all the toys I’m going to sell. So if a stranger comes to the door you’ll know it’s because they want to buy my stuff!!!”

She also hung up necklaces for sale against the window too.

According to the sign: The Barbie is $70 and each necklace is $90. If she get’s what she’s asking I’m putting her to work full time selling our junk so we can become millionaires.

When her friend came over that day, Sadie opened the door and said:

 “Are you here to buy my things? Because I have a lot of things I’m selling. But I’m not just going to give them to you…I want money for them. You are going to have to go home and ask your Dad for money so you can buy my things ok!!!”

(At least she’s not like those pushy salesmen…)

So far the items have been in our window for 4 days and we have had no takers yet….WONDER WHY?

So how long do I allow them to stay in my front window??? My friend Staci mentioned that the Barbie head in the window freaks her out…so maybe it’s time to take down the Barbie head and set up a lemonade stand for Sadie to work her entrepreneur skills on.

Call me Santa…as long as it works

A mom’s duty is never the same. Every day we have to come up with new creative ways to keep our kids helping and involved. It’s always a new game or trick up our sleeve. Really…I feel like I’m running out of ideas. But in my desperate effort to get the kids to help me clean…my idea actually worked.

I told the kids we were not going to clean today…but that we were going to go ice skating in the kitchen. They thought  it was fun and began calling me “Santa” and themselves “Elves”…Why..I’m not sure. But call me whatever you want as long as you clean up your own cracker crumbs and  juice spills!

Free=Good

I really miss summer, when it’s so easy to entertain your kids outside and it doesn’t cost anything! I need ideas of free things to do with my kids until it get’s warm.

This week we went to the Salt Lake City Library.

Nothing pleases me more than to see my kid’s imaginations click on when giving them or doing something so simple. The kids just enjoyed sitting back and reading books.

And my favorite…..playing “Poisonous Baby Eating Snakes” on the library furniture.

  

But their favorite part was riding the glass elevator again…and again…and again. And running up and down the large flight of stairs…again…and again…and again. 

The BEST THING ABOUT BEING A MOM…is watching your kids be kids!!!! Even when they do giggle a little too loud in a public library.
